Trollwood Performing Arts School regrets to announce that due to the extensive damage caused by Thursday’s thunderstorm, our production of Singin’ in the Rain will undergo a necessary rebuild. The show will now open on Friday, July 21, with additional performances scheduled for Sunday, July 23, and Tuesday, July 25. Unfortunately, all previously scheduled performances from July 13 to July 20 have been canceled. Performance dates are now July 21-23, and July 25-29.
Following the storm, our dedicated Mainstage Musical production team, comprised of highly skilled theater technicians, promptly assessed the damage to the stage and set. The severity of the destruction necessitates a comprehensive rebuild plan, which is currently underway. Despite the significant damage to the set’s foundation, our technicians are working diligently to reconstruct it in time for the new opening date.
The plan calls for the “Singin’ in the Rain” set to be fully rebuilt by next Friday, but the damage is significant. The foundation of the set is compromised and partially destroyed and it will take time to rebuild. Technicians have been working on set construction since last summer and the full team has been building in earnest since May of this year, so that work cannot be duplicated without time.
We are committed to getting this show back to full strength so that our students can shine and show this community what they have poured their hearts and souls into this summer. Following the postponement of “Singin’ in the Rain” in 2022, these student-performers have been waiting a long time to return to our stage and we are dedicated to providing them the full scope of that opportunity.
For all audience members holding tickets to the canceled performances, the Trollwood box office will personally reach out to facilitate rebooking for alternative show nights. Displaced ticketholders will receive the highest priority for tickets to the newly added performances, including the exclusive opportunity to select seats before they become available to the general public. Tickets for the added performance dates will go on sale no later than Tuesday, July 18, as the box office ensures individual arrangements with each affected ticketholder.
We have been overwhelmed by the support the local community has shown us in response to the weather damage. We appreciate all of the well wishes, words of sympathy, and offers to help. The support of the Fargo-Moorhead community means the world to us and the last couple of days have truly cemented what a wonderful and supportive place this is. The response we have received in our time of trouble has provided a ray of sunshine and hope and is a helpful motivator as our team works to get “Singin’ in the Rain” back on the stage.
Many people have reached out to ask how they can help us with the rebuild process and we are incredibly grateful for all of these offers of assistance. Those who wish to aid us in getting “Singin’ in the Rain” back on its feet can help by:
- Volunteering to help with set construction as a volunteer
- Donating to help us cover the unexpected expense of rebuilding our set
- Volunteering as performance night staff, helping with concessions, parking, ushering, etc. as we will be seeking many extra volunteers for our added performances
