Due to key staff positions going unfilled and unforeseen rising material costs, we made the difficult decision to postpone the Mainstage Musical: Singin’ in the Rain one year to 2023. The national labor shortage and inflation issues that have impacted industries locally and across the United States have likewise created struggles for Trollwood to produce the musical.
This decision was not made lightly. The Mainstage Musical requires educators with a specialized technical skill set for theatre arts that can also teach students throughout the summer. We exhausted all reasonable avenues to solve this labor issue and supply cost impacts, but we were unable to overcome these obstacles.
All other Trollwood programs for students in kindergarten through high school will proceed as planned this summer. The postponement is only for the Mainstage Musical.
Should they choose, all actors who have been cast in Singin’ in the Rain will be able to return to their roles as Trollwood stages Singin’ in the Rain in 2023. Anybody who has purchased group tickets will be refunded by June 1.
Despite this unfortunate setback, Trollwood Performing Arts School maintains its mission “to inspire those we serve through the arts to realize their full potential and be a positive influence in the global community.”
There are openings and availability for students to attend summer classes in the ArtSpark (K-4), Totally Trollwood Academy (Grades 5-7), Trollwood Academy (Grades 8-12), and Trollwood Conservatory (Grades10-12) programs. And for students to perform in Trollwood Children’s Theatre production of Seussical Kids (Grades 5-6), and the Trollwood Players production of the Living Room Chronicles (Grades 8-12). The Totally Trollwood Musical: Wizard of Oz Youth Edition (Grades 6-8) has reached capacity.
We thank everyone who has played a role in preparing for the musical so far and everyone who had planned to spend their summer on our stage at Bluestem Center for the Arts.
We will miss seeing our stage lit up and full of incredible student actors rehearsing and performing in our Mainstage Musical. Additionally, the Trollwood staff will miss seeing the thousands of community members at the Mainstage Musical this summer. But we ask that you please continue to support the talented students involved in all of our other summer programs.
